Abiding Courage – Exhibition Commemorating the Centennial of the 19th Amendment Exhibition and March 5 Reception
March 4 - April 9Free
Update: Abiding Courage is going to be shown in the Lower Level Gallery of the State House in September of 2020, not in April as planned.
One hundred years ago the US Constitution was amended to ensure individual states could no longer deny women their right to vote. The long struggle to ratify the 19th Amendment brought forward thousands of heroic women who stood up for the first time to demand their rights.
Abiding Courage is a juried exhibition of original artwork exploring the past, present, and future of our nation’s denial of voting rights to women and others. The Exhibition will include programs addressing voting rights and the history of woman suffrage among other topics and will encourage public participation in our democracy. Artists were asked to interpret themes such as voting rights, inclusion, democracy, those who have resisted the status quo, courage, persistence, and related topics for the exhibition. The exhibit will be on view from March 4 – April 9, 2020.
WCFA will host an Opening Reception on March 5, 2020, 6:00-8:00PM which is free and open to the public. The event will include awards, guest speaker and an opportunity to meet the artists.
